Some preschools closed over flu outbreak
Privately run preschools in the capital Male have decided to close over a spread of a viral flue across the city.
Dhondhooni Little Learners and Kinder Preschool are among the first to close down.
The common cold, viral fevers as well as the H1N1 virus, more commonly known as swine flu, have recently started spreading across the city.
Administrative Officer of Dhondhooni Littler Learners, Hassan Azman told Avas that the school was closed due to the low attendance rates caused by the spreading flue.
He informed that the school would be reopened after the midterm break should the spread of contagious diseases be controlled by then.
Reports indicate the Kinder Preschool will be reopened after the midterm break as well.
Government schools continue to operate despite the outbreak, with the education ministry insisting that schools would only be closed if the Health Protection Agency (HPA) advises to do so.
HPA meanwhile had downplayed the spread, insisting that the outbreak had not reached dangerous levels in the Maldives so far.
